What makes your soul giggle?
What makes your soul feel free and giggly, like you can't hold back the giggle even if people are around?
I'd LOVE to know what comes to mind.
For me it's dancing, waterslides, downhill skiing, swimming naked underwater, jumping off of rocks into cold water and most recently swimming down the Arroyo Seco river canyons without a tube, eeeeeee!!
Btw, this is my #1 favorite small-talk question...it's one people don't get asked but love to ponder and their answers are sooo good.
I just asked my 11yo. She says she gets her soul giggle from soccer, friendship, music and boba tea.
Having our soul feel free and giggly is delightful medicine even when it's taken in small doses. It reminds us we're not just here to check off boxes, tend to all the things and soldier through our responsible routines.
Back in my 20's I felt this way about farming- kinda weird right?...not exactly exhilarating like waterskiing or horseback riding. Something about having my hands in the soil, watching a seed burst open and witnessing the cycle of sprout to flower to fruit makes my soul smile and giggle.
Every year I yearn to garden. It feels ancient and yet as a solo working mom with an acre property and animals to care for, my hands feel way too full for the rows of veggies and flowers I dream of.
How can I let this be easy?
For now, I’m tending an itty bitty garden in three plastic clamshells I pulled from my recycle bin.
In 5-10 days these three little plastic trays will be bursting with kale microgreens and will provide us with a delicious punch of vitamins, nutrients and liver-loving chlorophyll. It's a 3 ingredient garden I can have under a window in my living room during the winter and right out on my porch during the summer.
I can plant it in under 10 minutes and takes me about 15 seconds to water every few days.
Once I start harvesting, I'll start another few clamshell trays so I can keep us in a continuous harvest of rich and tasty greens.
Here's a short video we made to show you how to get started with your own itty bitty but mighty garden.
